Leadership-About Me

Greetings to you all, my name is Tyeka Williams 😊, and I am a new member of the diversity leadership team here at NHCC. I was born in Chicago, ILL but moved to Minneapolis MN at a young age. I have been in MN majority of my life. I am a family of 4. My Identity is first following God and the purpose he has for me; by doing that I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. Second is creating goals to make sure when I leave this earth, I leave with a foundation that my purpose was filled, and to not only train my beautiful children up the way they should go but to anyone that sees me as a role model know that they are loved and have a duty to figure out who they are. I have had the great privilege and blessing of being an African American woman in America. Some would consider this a curse because it has been a difficult and challenging road to walk on, but I am truly proud and thankful to be black, for it is not a curse but a blessing for It has made me strong & confident in my own skin. I stand on the backs of giants and people who have overcame immense struggle, hardship, & unequal privileges; yet we still survive, thrive, and rise! when I got an email about being a part of this program at NHCC, it was one of those feelings that you just know it’s a great opportunity not just to be apart of being a leader to say you did it, but a leader to allow others to feel and see what you have been through and vis versa with other diversity race in America. I have many friends and family members from different background, and it is an exciting thing to learn about different ways of life. -- The best one to start with is FOOD 😉.

My main goal in being apart of Diversity Leadership at NHCC is to help others learn their identity as a person, explore other ethnic backgrounds, help open people blind eyes to the realistic of the world we live in today, and to understand that the laws was not writing to help certain Americans. But to be loop-holes for the people in power and certain race. The justice system is set into three-level economic classes to keep the rich rich and the poor poor which continue to allow unfair advantages for certain race, laws to be broken illegally, and brutal things to happen to Americans that get taken advantage of or harmed without consequences.

Thank You for reading and look forward to this journey 😊
